ELECTROSTATIC OILERS
From the Wimshurst electrostatic machine (year 1900 approx - Pavia, Hystoric Museum
of the University)...
... to the most advanced Electrostatic Oilers for steel and aluminum strips and plates.

GENERAL

Milled steel and aluminium strips and plates require more and more to be coated with a thin fluid coating to protect the surface against corrosion or to improve subsequent cold milling or pressing.

E.g. pickled steel strips for cars, domestic appliances and metal furnitures manufacture must be immediately protected after pickiling with a thin film of a suitable anticorrosive oil to avoid rusting and decay during storage, transportation, cutting and forming. Other types of emulsifiable oils are deposited onto pickled strips to be further cold milled.

Aluminium strips to be drawn and sheared to make food containers have to be coated with a very thin film of special food grade fluids to improve the fabricating qualities of the metal and to avoid early wearing and seizing up of tools.

Other lubricant oils to improve cold forming properties are suggested before feeding metal plates into forming presses.

Whenever it is needed to apply protective, lubricating or non sticking fluids on strips, plates or other low profile parts which can be moved on a continuous conveyor, the electrostatic oiling process can be profitably used.

Many well proven proprietary oils for the electrostatic process are offered on the market, all available in many grades suitable for the different applications.

Other kind of fluids can be electrostatically deposited such as non sticking compounds e.g. in the food industry on steel band conveyors or on cooking pans.
